Michael Skene

Michael Skene, 57 of Berlin passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 1, 2022, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut.  Mike was the youngest of George and Genevieve (Musial) Skene’s six children. A lifelong resident of Berlin he graduated from Berlin High in 1982.

Mike was a NY Mets and Dallas Cowboys fan.  He enjoyed classic television especially the detective stories of Perry Mason which he watched and dissected with his sisters.  He was a Ramones fan.  Mike was a storyteller with a dry sense of humor.  Throughout the myriad treatments and hospital stays he never failed to regale all with stories of dialysis or the assorted other folks he met when he got back home.

He leaves behind his beloved cat Samantha and his siblings Marsha (Philip) Kulas, Susan Skene husband Jeffrey Laviana, Lynn (David) Johnson, William (Shawn) Skene, Nancy (Mark)Quinn. Nieces and Nephews Kyra Kulas, Caitlin Laviana and husband Paul Tyson, Spenser Laviana, Corinne Laviana, Dylan Laviana. Ivan Johnson, Alexis Johnson, William (Lauren) Skene, Ryan (Sarah) Skene, Samuel Skene, Alison (Robert) Buntain and Adam (Ashley) Quinn. As well as eight Great nieces and nephews and still counting!

The Family would like to thank the HOCC Critical Care unit for the care and advocacy of Mike during his final hospitalization.  With a heartfelt shout out to Nurses Christine and Jessica who not only showed Mike great compassion but tolerated the family’s humor and endless questions with grace and professionalism.

Mike would have also wanted to thank his niece, Kyra Kulas RN, BSN, for her daily visits to do wound changes during his final months.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday September 13, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Berlin Memorial Funeral home, 96 Main Street in Kensington Ct.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00am on Wednesday September 14, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin. Michael will then be laid to rest next to his parents in Wilcox Cemetery also in East Berlin.
