Obituary

Genevieve Janet (Musial) Skene, 92, of Berlin passed away on December 31st at home surrounded by family.  Genevieve was born on July 28, 1928 in New Haven the youngest daughter of Stanley and Magdalena (Bulka) Musial. Following her marriage in 1953, to George Joseph Skene, Jr she became a lifelong resident of Berlin.

Gen is survived by her six children, twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Marsha and Philip Kulas and their daughter Kyra Elizabeth of Berlin.  Susan Skene and her husband Jeffrey Laviana of Berlin and their four children Caitlin and her fiancé, Paul Tyson of Brooklyn, New York, Corinne also of Brooklyn, New York and Spenser and Dylan Laviana both of Berlin.  Lynn and David Johnson of Middlefield and their children Ivan of Middlefield and Alexis of Worcester, Massachusetts.  William and Shawn Skene of Brooklyn, Connecticut and their three sons William (Lauren) Skene and their children Eleanor, Liam and Thea.  Ryan (Sarah) Skene of Whitensville, Massachusetts and their daughter Madeleine and Samuel of Brooklyn, Connecticut. Nancy and Mark Quinn of Mooresville, Indiana and their children Alison (Robert) Buntain of Monrovia, Indiana and their daughters Amylia, Raven and Felicity and Adam (Ashley) Quinn of Denver, Colorado.  Her son, Michael Skene of Berlin.

Genevieve was predeceased by her beloved husband of forty-one years and her siblings Frank (Marion) Mushal, Walter, Michael, Pauline, Stella (Raymond) Combs, Josephine and Stanley Musial.  Gen was employed for many years by the State of Connecticut, Department of Income Maintenance. She made her home with her youngest son, Michael, after her husband’s death and he was her primary care giver for many years. Gen enjoyed trying many new artistic adventures, such as cooking, painting, basket making and gardening, but her favorite was quilting. Gen was a member of quilting clubs and enjoyed the camaraderie it provided. She especially enjoyed the Wednesday afternoon quilting sessions at the Berlin Senior Center. She had a wicked sense of humor that her family will talk about for years to come.   

Genevieve was a member of Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin and a former member of the St. Paul’s Ladies Guild 

A mass in celebration of Genevieve’s life will be held at Saint Paul’s Church in Kensington at a later date. Burial will be private at the Wilcox Cemetery in East Berlin, Connecticut.
