Ida (Scagliotti) Magnoli Peterson, a lifelong resident of Berlin, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, January 19, 2018, two months shy of her 100th birthday.
Born on March 19, 1918, the daughter of the late Carlo and Carolina (Farina) Scagliotti, Ida worked in Barton’s Gift Shop in New Britain, as a waitress at Dodson & Eddie’s Diner in Berlin and for many years in the Customer Service Department of New Britain National Bank in New Britain. She made many lifelong friends at the bank. For many years after her retirement in 1983, they would get together often for lunch, dinners and many Christmas get-togethers.
Ida was a woman of strong faith and a lifelong parishioner of St. Paul Church in Kensington. Nothing was more important to her than her family and being with them and her friends. She loved cooking and feeding people and no one left her house hungry.
Ida is survived by her children: Frank C. Magnoli of Middletown, and Denise M. McNair and her husband, Jim of Berlin. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, who will fondly remember her words of wisdom and her birthday cake decorations: Stephanie M. Magnoli, Lauren M. McNair and John L. McNair. She leaves behind several generations of nieces, nephews and many special friends and neighbors including Elaine, Ron and Bre.
Ida was predeceased by her husbands: Frank Magnoli, Frank Romito and Harold Peterson, her sisters: Irene Scagliotti, Mary Revelli, Theresa Calcaterra and Fanny Legnani.
Ida’s family would like to thank the staff at Apple Rehab, Cromwell for their love and care while she was there – many of them became her family and she entertained them daily.
Friends and family may call at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington, on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery.
