Barbara Hart Obituary

The presence of Barbara Mary Hart, 94, a lifelong resident of New Britain, was requested in Heaven on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. She graciously and peacefully accepted.

She was born to Thomas Hart and Josephine (Snyder) Hart on February 4, 1925. She was the last surviving member of her siblings who included Josephine (Makuch), Irene (Nadolny), William, Thomas and Robert. Theirs was a family of solid work ethic, strong moral values, good humor, service to country and causes with a deep devotion to the love of family. She is survived by her sister-in-law Wanda Hart of Southington, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and an abundance of cherished friends.

Barbara graduated from New Britain High School in 1943 and Goddard College with a Master's Degree in Literature and Music. She worked at Stanley Works and had a later career at Central Connecticut State College/University in Admissions and the Registrars Offices until her retirement. She was a long time member of the American Film Institute, attended many of their yearly gatherings and met many film stars through the years.

Barbara greatly enjoyed travel especially to England, Ireland, Scotland and Vermont. As those who know her can attest, she was a collector - books (especially books), stamps, coins and dolls. And when she wasn't collecting something she was happily purchasing multiples of everything to give to family whenever she would see them. Many didn't even realize they needed a certain something until Barbara presented it to them. Her generosity of spirit, time and presents was wonderfully abundant and unparalleled. And if she didn't see someone during the year, oh boy, were they in for a treat at Christmas! Her house was as festive with scores of presents for dozens of relatives and friends as it was with a dizzying kaleidoscope of decorations that, upon later reflection, made you understand that Barbara felt the Christmas spirit not only at that time of year but every day all year long. We all need a little more Barbara in our lives, and those of us who did were happier and grateful, truly grateful, for it. Let's spread that spirit to all we love and touch.

Barbara's grateful family thanks Arbor Rose in New Britain and Southington Care Center for their superlative care over the past few years. She was happy and well-cared for and you couldn't have been nicer or more attentive.

Berlin Memorial Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. There are no calling hours. Friends and family are invited to attend a committal service Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.

Given Barbara's lifelong love of the Arts, especially film and music, we suggest that Memorial donations may be made to Cinestudio at www.cinestudio.org, the American Cancer Society, or a worthwhile organization of your choice. In Barbara's words, "I say sharing a smile keeps me happy for many a mile." We love you, Barbara!
