Andrew Chatlas Obituary

Andrew Gregory Chatlas, 66, of Kensington, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, March 4, 2019. Andy was the beloved husband of 26 years to Kathleen (Littlefield) Chatlas and the loving and proud Dad of Joseph Frederick Chatlas.  Andy was born June 2, 1952 in New Britain to his devoted and loving parents, Steven and Mary (Kochanowsky) Chatlas who predecease him.   Andy was raised in New Britain and Kensington and, in 2004, happily moved his family back to his parent’s family home.

Prior to retirement, Andy enjoyed a lengthy and fulfilling career as a Social Worker for the Department of Developmental Services, supporting individuals with disabilities.  Andy enjoyed the outdoors; camping, working in his vegetable garden, restoring and riding on his antique Farmall tractors, visiting Newport, R.I. and Mount Desert Island, Maine.  Mostly though, he loved being with his family and being the most loving, caring, kind, and fun husband, dad, brother and best friend. Andy was most proud and happy spending time with his precious son, Joe.  As his final act of kindness, Andy was an organ donor.

In addition to Kathy and Joe, Andy is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Joanne Chatlas of Kensington and his  brother and sister-in-laws; Teresa Hernandez of East Lyme, Lawrence and Constance  Littlefield of Bethlehem and Patricia and Charles Staker of Reedville, VA.  Andy was also the proud uncle of Robin, Tim, Kate, Mike, Duncan and Corinne as well as many great nieces and nephews. Additionally, Andy leaves many loving cousins, friends, coworkers and neighbors.

Family and friends may call at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Andy’s memory to ARC of New London, Camp Program, 125 Sachem Street, Norwich, CT 06360.  These donations will provide camperships to individuals with disabilities to attend and enjoy Camp Harkness in Waterford, CT
